Racing, Scenery, Toasties and a Trophy!
The Aoraki Picton Regatta 2025 was an unforgettable experience! With breathtaking views, tough competition, and some exciting new experiences in small boats, we pushed ourselves to the limit and came home with a trophy to show for it!
Two crews represented Pōneke at the regatta, which was hosted by the Aoraki Dragons at Shelley Beach. Our Mixed Boat put in a solid performance, securing 3rd place in their A Final and an impressive 1st place in the B Final in the Les Mans race. A fantastic result!
Our wāhine waka fought against fierce competition and took 1st place in the A Final, bringing home Aoraki’s Trophy! It was a nail-biting race, with just 0.6 seconds separating Pōneke from Amazon and Mana Wāhine. The same lineup faced off in the Les Mans race, where we finished 3rd by only 0.8 seconds, a testament to the tight competition and incredible effort from all the paddlers.
This regatta was not just about the races; it was about teamwork, perseverance, and making memories on the water. The beautiful surroundings of Picton made it even more special, and we can’t wait to return for another round next year.
