About Pōneke Watersports

As the largest club in the Wellington region, we have more than one team so you can find a place to fit no matter your fitness level or age.

Once known as Valley Dragon Boat Club the club was registered as an incorporated society with the Ministry of Economic Development in August 2009 but teams were first formed for the 2011 season.

In 2022 we changed our name to Pōneke Watersports to better represent our club members and our local Wellington location.

Life jackets and paddles

We’ve also recently purchased new life jackets which are compulsory for all paddlers to wear.

And to complete the look, we have also recently bought new carbon fibre paddles which are lightweight and make paddling a breeze! Don’t worry we’ve still got the wooden ones for those super hard training sessions!
